In the winter months or in dry climates, it’s not uncommon for lips to become chapped and flaky. But if your lips are excessively dry or you’re needing to reapply your balm or ChapStick more often, it could be a sign of an underlying condition — especially if your lips are cracking at the corners.

Cracked lips can be an indication that you’re deficient in B vitamins, especially B12. Try adding a daily vitamin and incorporate some vitamin B-rich foods into your diet. Dry and peeling lips could also mean that you’re dehydrated, so increase your water intake and see if that helps the problem.
