How You Store Butter Determines It’s Expiration Date
If you store it correctly, butter can last beyond it’s “best by” date. For instance, according to the USDA, it’ll only stay fresh for one to two days if you keep butter at room temperature. The oils inside of it begin to decay when the butter is anywhere above 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
In order to enjoy it up to one month later, keep your butter in the fridge, while it’ll last for six to nine months in the freezer. When butter goes bad, it becomes too soft, too hard, or develops mold, so, fortunately, you can easily notice it.
